Bank Indonesia is the sole institution legally empowered to design, produce, issue and circulate rupiah banknotes, as well as to revoke the rupiah as legal tender, withdraw it from circulation and destroy it.
Anyone who wishes to reproduce images of this currency for any purpose (informational, educational, commercial, numismatic, etc.) must obtain prior permission from Bank Indonesia.
Article 246 of the Indonesian Book of Criminal Law states that anyone who reduces the value of money for the purpose of distribution, orders the distribution of money which has been reduced in value, or destroys money faces a punishment of imprisonment for up to 12 (twelve) years.
- Reproductions shall be depicted proportionally and the image shall be larger or smaller than a genuine banknote.
